Why should major pedestrian flows of shoppers, residents and commuters have to defer to minor vehicular sidestreets? Let the pedestrian come first. Enforce Article 108 of the Highway Code "Give way to pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning." Install a suitable mix of light-controlled crossings, Jersey crossings (belisha-less zebras) and pedestrian priority zones to ensure that those on foot, in pushchairs and in wheelchairs can enjoy a level of service taken for granted by the occupants of motor vehicles.
