Robots (2005 film)

This is an incredibly good film, by the makers of "Ice Age", who wisely decided against "Ice Age 2" and came up with something wildly inventive and different.

In this world of machines and robots, a young and intelligent male robot Rodney Copperbottom (Ewan McGregor) is considered an aspiring inventor.

Rodney only dreams of two phenomenal things, to make the world a better place to live, through peace and love, and to meet his idol the master of all inventions, Bigweld (Mel Brooks).

Rodney comes from an adoring family, where his parents are nothing but supportive and loving.

Rodney's parents loved him since the time that they spent putting him together all night from parts that arrived in a box.

It appeals to children and adults alike. The comedy varies from the slapstick (which children will love), to wonderful pastiches of movies (the dance sequence "I'm singing in the oil" by the robot Fender, voiced by Robin Williams, is particularly brilliant); the everyday life in robot world, and the birth and Rodney's growing up is wonderfully amusing.

But there is also a strong message against the idea of "built-in obselescence", well portrayed in the evil business robot's idea to restrict spare parts, and allow only expensive upgrades to be sold. But above all the idea which shines through is - follow your vision, your dream, and look for making a better world for everyone.
