Guernsey, Channel Islands.

Guernesey, Les Îles Normandes.

Guernési, Les Îles de la Manche

Guernsey is a small island in the Gulf of St. Malo between Normandy and Brittany, and its current position culturally and politically is as a result of a very convoluted past. You may be wondering that the above different spellings of Guernsey mean the first is the current English spelling, the second is the traditional French spelling, however in France it is increasing referred to as "Les Îles Anglo-Normandes" as the Island and its neighbours (Jersey, Alderney, Sark and Herm) excluding Les Îles Chausey are predominently English speaking. Although French was dropped in favour of English as the official language of Guernsey in 1966 and French is still joint official language of Jersey. The third spelling is in Dguernesais or 'Guernsey Norman French', the language of ancient origin claiming it roots from the old Norman language rather than current French.
