Jersey Junior Chamber was founded in 1971 and is affiliated to British Junior Chamber who are in turn affiliated to Junior Chamber International , with half a million members worldwide, including countries such as Japan, United States of America and Russia.
To celebrate 25 years, we are hosting the 1997 British Junior Chamber National Conference.
Junior Chamber is the only organisation which provides opportunities to young people between the ages of 18 and 40 to gain experience through formal training and community projects. The experience gained can then be used in their business and personal lives.
Jersey Junior Chamber in conjunction with British Junior Chamber, provide the opportunities for young people to develop their business and social skills and are encouraged to maximise their potential for their own and their employer's benefit. This is achieved through a full calendar of events, including participation in community projects and personal development seminars.
Members are encouraged to participate in the five areas of opportunity of Chamber which will enable them to benefit fully from their membership. These areas together with examples of recent activities are:
Recent training events include, public speaking, dressing for success, team skills, and mindmapping. Both local and our own BJC trainers are used to run these events. Following the success of the "Communicating for Success" seminars in 1994, Allan Pease has been invited to present two new seminars during 1996.
Community
Projects are run for two reasons. Firstly to give members the chance to develop and practise new skills outside of the work place. Secondly projects benefit the community. Over the years Jersey Junior Chamber have run some amazing projects, The Channel Island Motor Show, the Britax car seat campaign, Charity Auctions, donor recruitment for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust and the LeisureTime exhibition. The Waste Saver leaflet giving details of how to recycle all types of waste was produced in association with the Channel Islands Cooperative Society.
The area of international allows members to participate in Junior Chamber activities at a world level. This is achieved through attendance at World Conferences, twinning with chambers in St Malo and Nairobi. Spectacle frames are currently being collected by Jersey Junior Chamber with assistance from other chambers in the British Isles for the Kikuyu Eye Hospital in Kenya. International activities lend themselves to a great opportunity to network and develop a greater understanding of other cultures.
Social
Members enjoy the opportunity to make new friends and acquire the social skills required in business when meeting people from different walks of life and to be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
Business
Members are encouraged to promote and develop their own businesses through membership of Junior Chamber. One way of doing this is through the International Business Network.
