Livres des Perchagesof the Fiefs in Guernsey

Livres des Perchage are surveys undertaken at intervals by the representatives of the Seigneur of a Fief (a basic feudal holding of varying size) recording details of his holdings and tenants - most are in private hands. States of Guernsey Island Archives Service has a selection and access to many others not actually on their premises.

1. Registers of Fief le Comte (Castel) 1471-1971: an example from these records for the ownership of Les Queux.

1471 - Jean Caritey (Queritez), alias Le Queu (indicates how the house gained it's name).
1549 - Perryne Le Queu.
1583 - Hellier Marquay fils Collas (the first change of ownership).
1662 - Thomas Cohu, formerly belonging to Hellier Marquay. This change of ownership came about as André Cohu fils Collas (who appears at La Landelle, Fief le Comte in 1584 and his father Collas before him in 1548) married Marie Marquay fille Hellier (C) 20.1.1616 - Thomas was their eldest son. The property then stays with the Cohus for a number of years.
1729 - André Cohu fils André.
1750 - André Cohu fils André.
1798 - André Cohu fils André.
1833 - Nicolas Mahy, formerly belonging to André Cohu.
1853 - Nicolas Mahy fils Nicolas.
1873 - Nicolas Mahy fils Nicolas.
1894 - Adolphe Jean Mahy fils Nicolas.
1914 - Les Queux Manor Vineries.
