Electricians

There are sixteen lifts within the General Hospital and Administration block, most of which are passenger lifts. In the picture below there are two bed lifts on the right and three passenger lifts on the left (although only one is in view).

Electricians perform routine maintenance on most of these lifts and are required to occasionally fix them but when a fault is so bad that it cannot be fixed, specialists from the lift manufacturer must be called in to get the lift working as quickly as possible. Some electricians are sent to the mainland on special lift maintenance and repair courses but even with this limited training, sometimes it is not enough as there may not even be the necessary parts such as main boards available in order to effect the repair.

Again, as with automatic doors, lifts are a convenience but can also be lifesaving if, for instance, a patient on a stretcher with severe spinal injuries needs to get to Intensive Care which is on the second floor of the 'Sixties Wing'.
