Carpenters
As with all of the various sections of the Engineering Department, the
majority of carpenters are based at the General Hospital. St Saviours
Hospital and Overdale Hospital have their own smaller workshops.
At the General Hospital, three highly skilled craftsmen (and a hands-on
chargehand) service all of the carpentry needs of the wards, acute services,
nearby departments such as the Diabetic Centre and also a large proportion
of external Hospital accommodation.
Inside the carpentry machine shop
Here in the machine shop can be found a planer, a circular saw, a crosscut
saw, a band saw and a morticer. Every day these tools can be heard whining
away on the ground floor of the Engineering block.
