Born in Jersey on
December 29th 1959 Rob is married to Jill and has three children, Scott (4) and twins Luke
and Aaron (2).
Rob was educated at Le Squez
primary school, and later at St. Helier Boy's Secondary school.
On leaving school Rob was
employed at South Pier Shipyard to do a five year apprenticeship as a yacht rigger. He
worked for them for fourteen years, 7 of them as a foreman rigger in charge of a 3-man
team. He then left the Island for a year and traveled to Australia where he worked for
Woodley's Boatyard in Sydney.
Rob is now working for the
States of Jersey where he has been a boatman (skipper) for the past 4 years. His role has
included taking Archaeologists to the old monastery on the Ecrehous Reef and working on
both Gorey and Elizabeth Castles.
Rob is presently studying
Navigation but already holds a Day Skipper Certificate an RYA competence certificate VHF
license. Throughout his life Rob has enjoyed sport, representing the Island at an early
age in sports and events such as Javelin, Cricket and Table Tennis.
He also enjoys body building,
cycling and of course rowing which he has been doing for ten years. During the Winter, Rob
trains 4 times a week for over two hours at a time, splitting this time into one hour of
weights and one hour of aerobics.
During the Summer
months he rows four to five times a week, with a race every weekend. He manages to fit
this strict regime into his daily life by getting up to row at 6.00 am so as to be able to
spend time with his family in the evenings. He cycles every day throughout the year to
complete his training schedule.
