"Don't know muchabout History".
Born and raised in rural Hampshire, the son of a country Doctor, and a demanding mother,
I felt I was being told what to do from a young age. I escaped home (which was then Jersey)
as soon as possible.
1965 I was an apprentice engineer at Rolls Royce, Bristol, specialising in
the flight development of helicopters and Harriers. It was whilst living at Thornbury
that I met young Janet, sweet 15, and companion eversince.
1969 and the rebel reamerged. It was off to Israel, and Kibbutz Eilon and
a year later, Kibbutz Sasa.
1971 saw me at the Rudolph Steiner Sheiling School in Thornbury as assistant gardner,
any odd-job man, and wild rover. "Ah those were the days my friend".
1973 a group of us from Thornbury bought Nant Gwyn, a hill farm in the Welsh hills,
and started Coleg Elidyr, otherwise known as the Birthe Hougaard Home for wayward boys and girls.
Janet and I married in a Galvanised Methodist Chappel, and young Matthew was born.
1976 the start of a 15year association with Mencap from garden instructor at
Lufton Manor, Somerset, to Principal at Dilston Hall in Northumberland.
1991 the wild rover reamerged, and it was cycling across Pakistan and the Himalayas
followed by 3 years at Sunderland University and a BSc in Health Studies.
1995 Back to Jersey, the revolution has been accomplished.
Now I potter about ~ no direction ~ but with an interest in depth.
Find me ~ in the garden ~ at the computer ~ pondering the financial markets ~ wandering footpaths ~
~ earning the odd bit of money delivering cars.
Whitman says "Look for me under your boot soles " ~ I like that.
