I took a rest day in Anet as I had been walking for 10 days without a stop, and I thought it would set me up well for the last 2 days into Versailles ~ where I had decided to finish. It was a cold windy and showery day ~ not the best for resting. I hobbled into town for supplies ~ maps ~ and some ammusement ~ but all in all I was in low spirits.
Day 20 and I left town on a cool, windy day. I was not walking well ~ unable to exert power through my right leg. Never mind ~ aches and pains need to be walked through and they usually go away. An hour out of town and over the hill and the going was a little easier for the next hour or two.
I stopped in a small town for coffee ~ but really I was in poor shape. The next hill was a struggle ~ and the next village real hard labour. The path followed an old road through the middle of open farmland to Richebourg, where I hoped to get supplies for the night, and to find a spot to rest for the night soon after.
I really needed to rest and settled down in the field for an hour of eating and resting ~ soon it started to rain so it was time to go on. ~ But I COULDN'T MOVE ~ well at least I couldn't put any weight on my right knee without excruicating pain. Could I crawl to the buildings a kilometer away? ~ What would be the use of that? ~ I managed to get going but that was all ~ It was time to call it a day and try and get home!
I made it to the nearest road, and after half an hour got a lift to the station at Houdan. Seriously I couldn't move without 15minutes of gently ~ painfully ~ and slowly putting weight on my knee.
I got a train to Paris ~ back to Rennes ~ and St Malo by 10 at night. No station hotel had room so I hobbled the 2km to the port ~ erected my tent behind a bush ~ and made the ferry at 8.
After my GR10 walk I was brimming with energy ~ this time I was drained and hobbleing ~ only begining to resurface about 7 days later when I got a job moving hire cars.
