Carrouges was my second rest day as I had been walking for 10 days now. I wanted to mail home the maps and films I had accumulated ~ no easy task with the girl at la Poste. Next I needed maps ~ but none were to be found in town. There were excellent foodshops though ~ so that was some consolation.
Day 11 and it was straight back into the forest d' Ecouves for some cool walking. It was around lunchtime I met the only other walker of the GR22 ~ we were at halfway point ~ and we understood each other at a deep level ~ I hope she finds these pages.
Evening was to be a campsite in Radon. Yes Radon had a few shops ~ but no campsite ~ but after talking with the locals in the Bar ~ I encamped myself on the sports-field ~ where water and toilet were to be found ~ and no-one hassled me
Day 12 I had the plain to cross ~ a welcome change from the forest. At First I encountered the N128 ~ with warehouse sized lorries storming past ~ wow ~ wierd ~
Then farms, rivers and roads to la Fresnaye ~ shops and camping but no maps. Eventually I got photocopies from the Gendarmerie, but the flick insisted on using the machine and only copied some usefull parts.
It was hard going in the forest that afternoon and I collapsed very exhausted at a picnic spot ~ with no appatite and rotten guts.
Day 13 Umm? ~ I was in a bad state and had my first big getting lost but eventually ended up where I had started "A tour en round" as they say in French. So I decided to do a little road/ lane walking across to the next forest and to meet Mosieur Maillara ~ whom I had met the previous day ~ and who had invited me for supper and camp in the garden.
The small town of la Perriere was a delight ~ the most perfect I encountered ~ with ancient buildings and a single shop. I eventually made it to Mr M ~ food ~ drinks ~ good company ~ and he took me to town in his car to buy maps. ~ thanks ~
