The GR22 ~ Domfront to Carrouges

leaves

The Forest of Andaines Day 9 I keep going-on about the HOT weather ~ but it was a major feature to a Brit / Crapeaud like me ~ so I started early.
Another feature of this start was that I was on my 1:200,000 Michelin map as I crossed the corner of a 1:25,000 IGN map and hadn't wanted to buy it. It seemed the GR22 came-by just to the West of town ~ near the race-course, and then headed straight through thr forest. I would give it a try
Well I found the route just out of town, but it was an hour or more before I joined my forest map. Walking in the forest was a delight ~ Sunday morning with the occasional jogger, VTT or Horse Rider passing.

Chapel to St Genevieve Halfway through the forest was the Chapel of St Genevieve and a bar restaurant ~ so I stopped for a coffee. I had come to like such spots on this walk ~ and liked to rest and see what was going on. Though I was walking through the heart of rural France with many villages ~ shops and refreshments were rarely found more than once a day.

What more can I say ~ It was a 30km stage today ~ straight all the way ~ and ending at the Spar of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne ~ it got VERY HOT ~ and Bagnoles had a 3star campsite ~ not my favourite, ~ but with a restaurant and friendly staff where I downed a bottle of wine, a large salad, and steak and chips.

The Forest of Andaines Day 10 Writing this ~ now 10 weeks later I don't remember much so I will have to look at my diary.
Gatehouse to Carrouges Chateau.

"Sunday ended with shopping for supplies ~ fruit ~ fromage blanc ~ buns ~ and juice ~ All I want and can eat on a HOT day's walking. Up early and away at 6.45 as Bagnoles was waking up. ~ 1,000 FF from the cash dispenser ~ and the forest until mid-day ~ with another pretty chappel. Quite a lot of walking in the sun after mid-day. I had kept my fluid up until the last hour when I stormed up to Carrouges by 4.00 ~ and then downed 2 grandes bierres (2l) before shopping and campsite. Lovely grass looking out over rolling hills and woods. Salmon ~ eggs ~ tomato ~ and a prawn fuillette + of course du vin."
