The GR22 ~ Paris to Mont St-Michel Pilgrims trail.
Introduction
One day in 1998 ~ whilst aimlessly wandering the net ~ I came upon the site of the
European Long Distance Paths. Here both ego and heart were in alliance ~
so it was pack the rucksac ~ and out of the front door ~ destination Paris.
Mont St-Michel
Mont St Michel is a meeting point of several paths ~
The GR34 heads westward along the coast
The GR22 heads eastwards to Paris
The GR223 heads Northwards along the coast for Granville and beyond
The GR37 heads South for Rennes and ?
I thought of putting maps on the web-pages, but having finally found that 1:200,000
Michelin produced the most acceptable result, ~ I have decided they take up too much
space/time. ~ You can see an example by clicking here.
Whilst on the subject of maps
The 1:25,000 IGN are of course the best, but you need about 20 of them which will cost
about 1,000FF ~ They are not always available along the route ~ but they are an absolute
delight to walk with.
The 1:100,000 IGN Serie Verte are perhaps the best compromise and I would advise
buying the 4 or 5 of them as soon as you can.
I had the 1:200,000 Michelin to cover the whole route and had to use them when
nothing else was available.
The route is of course marked with that icon of the FFRP the white and red paint stripe
~ some sections very poor ~ some excellent.
3 FFRP Topoguides to the GR22 are I believe being reissued but were unavailable at the time.
