The days stage
~ Oh I must say it again ~
One of those things I love about walking is that you never know what the day will bring!
No apatite ~ and the shits ~ but feeling a little better ~ and the mist mostly clear. Nothing for it but to descend to the village on my own route. The only real problem was on the lower part ~ of finding a route through fields and hedges to gain the road.
On the road to the village the idea floated through my mind that I was fed up and didn't fancy climbing any more hills. There was no arguement ~ I simply accepted it and put it to one side.
In Larrau was a small shop ~ I entered and looked around. There was simply nothing I fancied eating except perhaps some fruit and a tin of coke. So on the bench outside I consulted my maps and guidebook. There was no public transport ~ but a small road winding back to St-Jean-de-P. I would try hitching ~ and if nothing happened for an hour or two I would reconcider my options.
The second car that passed whisked me over the mountains ~ and I was at the train station with a train to Bayonne and Hendaye shortly. I met some other english walkers abondining the GR65 because of exhaustion ~ so I felt in good company.
A long trek in Hendaye back to the campsite ~ would my motorcycle be OK ~ yes it was and it started first time! ~ I chatted with camp residents about my experiences and rode into town for a pizza ~ only half of which I could eat. ~ What was wrong with me? ~ Shits or Exhaustion?
I settled down to just look through my Topo-Guides ~ and Lourdes stood out as a place to rest ~ and continue walking if the mood took me. So I had a new plan for the next day.
Here ends part one of the walk
Part 2 ~ Lourdes to Bagneres-de-Luchon ~ I will start putting together now ~ but the walking bug has bitten me again and I will be off to try the GR22 ~ St Malo to Paris ~ as soon as I can get away ~ so it may take some time before Part 2 is complete. ~ and of course GR22!
