Modem Support

If you have been experiencing seemingly random disconnection problems, the problem may be with the modem you are using. Check to see if your modem is listed below, and if it is you may want to try these new settings.

Software/Win/HSP Modems
There are a few considerations to take into account with these modems:
As the modem relies on processor-power to handle all the compression and error-control, you need a powerful machine to use these modems.
If you aren't using a true Pentium (such as a Cyrix or IBM chip), then you need the specific driver for your chip - the standard driver is only optimised for Pentium processors.
Your machine will slow considerably due to the cpu load when the modem is in use.
If your machine isn't fast enough, the connect speed will be affected, and could also cause disconnections.
On certain machines, if you don't have your display set to 256 colours, then you will get random disconnections (strange but true!)

USR Winmodems This modem relies on the processor to handle compression and error control etc. Your machine will slow considerably due to the cpu load when the modem is in use.
If your machine isn't fast enough, the connect speed will be affected, and could also cause disconnections. The following setting may help: AT&FS25=200
The USR Sportster string has also worked for the Winmodem.
ZOOM V.32 turbo AT&FW1&C1&D3&K3&Q5%C1\N3S7=60S36=7S46=138
  S48=7S95=47 (this is all one setting)

Notes: 1) Do not use these setting unless you have been experiencing problems
2) Where more than one setting is shown, you should only try one at a time.
3) Supernet can not guarantee that these new setting will solve any modem problems you may be having

How to install the new settings:
Windows 95: 1) Open the modem control panel
2) Click on Properties of the modem
3) Click on the Connection tab
4) Click on Advanced
5) In the Extra settings box, type in the command string
6) Click on OK then OK again and then Close the modem control panel window
Windows 3.x or Mac This is dependent on the software you are using. You need to put the string into the 'Modem Initialisation string' setting of the software.
