Religion is probably the most important influence on the lives of everyone in the world. We may think that we do not believe in religion, and that it is nothing to do with us but, nevertheless, it affects a great many aspects of our everyday lives wherever we live.

All around us we find religious buildings, reflecting the various cultures and communities that live nearby. Our holidays are often controlled by the timing of religious celebrations. Our lives are broken up into days and months, most of which are named after the ancient gods of religions now forgotten. School terms are designed so that people will be on holiday during major religious festivals. Religion has been the cause of the majority of all the wars which have been fought in the world as people from different religious groups have sought to dominate one another.

Yet this does not mean that religion is a bad thing itself. It shows that many people do not tolerate each other when they encounter those who have different beliefs to their own. Religious belief has been with humanity since the very beginning. It is an attempt to explain those things for which we do not otherwise have an answer: why are we born, why do we suffer, what happens to us when we die? Many of these questions are answered in this web site so please carry on exploring.
